Shopify has launched ‘Agentic plan,’ a new option that allows brands without a Shopify store to sell products through its AI-powered ecosystem. The company says the plan lets merchants list items in Shopify Catalog, enabling them to appear in AI shopping channels, the Shop app, and future partners. Shopify claims this approach allows merchants to reach potential customers without needing a Shopify storefront.

How the Agentic plan works

According to Shopify, merchants upload their product data once, and it becomes available across multiple AI interfaces. Through Shopify’s Agentic storefronts, which launched in December, products can appear in conversational AI tools, including ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Mode, and Gemini.

Shopify also says the plan enables direct purchases inside these AI platforms, letting users browse and buy products where they already spend time online. Interested merchants can join a waitlist to participate in the program.

Shopify pushes deeper into agentic commerce

The new feature is part of Shopify’s expansion of its AI commerce strategy. At the National Retail Federation 2026 conference, Shopify outlined how conversational AI is being treated as a full sales channel. The company’s push into agentic commerce is built around partnerships with the largest AI platforms, shaping how people search, ask questions, and make decisions online.

Shopify has aligned itself with Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI to place buying directly inside AI conversations where users already spend time. Recently, Shopify announced Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard co-developed with Google and several retailers, including Walmart, Target, Etsy, and Wayfair.

This open standard enables Shopify to connect merchants to multiple AI platforms without requiring separate integrations for each one. Shopify is also bringing in-chat checkout to Google’s AI products. The company says Google Search’s AI Mode and the Gemini app will soon support shopping and checkout powered by UCP.

Shopify’s agentic commerce strategy also extends to Microsoft Copilot. Last week, Microsoft launched Copilot Checkout, enabling direct purchases within Microsoft Copilot across Bing, Edge, and other Copilot surfaces. In September last year, OpenAI partnered with Shopify to launch Instant Checkout. Through this integration, Shopify-powered products can be browsed and purchased directly inside Copilot chats.
