TikTok is bringing one-click checkout to the For You feed, with the brand rather than TikTok making the sale. The company announced Buy Direct and Shopping Assistant at Advertising Week New York on 5 October, the first two products under a new banner it calls Agentic Commerce.
Buy Direct is an in-app checkout that lets a person buy from a brand without leaving TikTok. Shopping Assistant is an AI agent that answers a shopper’s questions about a product before the purchase. TikTok says it is building both with commerce platforms and payment providers including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe.
How Buy Direct Works
TikTok describes Buy Direct as a purchase made directly from the For You feed with one click. Its business blog post adds the detail. The checkout uses stored payment methods and saved addresses, and order tracking also happens inside the app.
The brand remains the Merchant of Record for every sale. That puts Buy Direct in a different position from a marketplace listing: the shopper buys from the brand, and TikTok supplies the checkout around it.
Buy Direct requires an integration with the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP), which TikTok describes as a standardized set of rules that lets AI agents and merchant systems work together. Google launched UCP in January, and on 21 May it brought UCP checkout to Shopping ads on YouTube. Buy Direct puts TikTok’s checkout on the same protocol.
What Shopping Assistant Does
TikTok calls Shopping Assistant a conversational AI agent that understands context and remembers a shopper’s needs. It is built into several TikTok touchpoints, and it handles product details, shipping, sizing, availability and purchasing in one conversation.
In an ad, it appears as a chat window on the product page inside TikTok’s in-app browser. Its answers come from information the merchant provides, so what the assistant can say about a product depends on what the brand gives it. From there, the shopper continues to checkout on the merchant’s site, still inside the in-app browser.
For TikTok, the two products keep the question and the purchase in the same place as the video that prompted them.
Who Can Use It
TikTok says its agentic products are available through eligibility-based testing. Advertisers who want to try them are told to contact their TikTok sales partner, who decides eligibility and the setup that fits the business.
Neither the newsroom post nor the business blog names the markets, a general launch date or any fee for Buy Direct.
The Launch Partners
TikTok named four partners and said there are more. Stripe already powers a one-tap checkout on Facebook.
- Commerce platforms
SalesforceCommerce platform partner
ShopifyCommerce platform partner
ShoplazzaEcommerce platform partner
- Payment providers
StripePayment provider partner
Where This Fits
Every large feed is moving the sale inside its own app. On 21 September, Shopify chief executive Tobias Lütke announced that Meta’s Muse agent will be able to buy from Shopify stores. Google’s UCP checkout already runs in Shopping ads on YouTube.
TikTok’s version starts somewhere different. The shopper begins on an ordinary video in the For You feed, not in a chat or a search result.
TikTok framed the launch with PF Global’s 2026 economic impact report, released on 2 October. TikTok says the report found that 54 million Americans bought a product after watching a TikTok video, and that activity on the platform helped generate $81 billion in US GDP in 2025.
TikTok also announced Agentic Leads, which puts an AI agent on lead forms for longer purchase decisions.
