OpenAI says it is developing an AI-powered jobs platform that will connect job seekers with businesses. According to the company, the new service, called the OpenAI Jobs Platform, will use AI to connect employers with candidates.

The announcement was made by Fidji Simo, the company’s CEO of Applications, in a blog post on Thursday. According to her, the goal is to “use AI to help find the perfect matches between what companies need and what workers can offer.”

The platform is expected to launch by mid-2026, according to a report from TechCrunch. If released, it will place OpenAI in direct competition with LinkedIn, which has long dominated professional networking and recruitment.

How OpenAI says the platform will work

The OpenAI Jobs Platform is being built with AI at its core. The company claims the service will go beyond traditional recruitment by offering AI-driven job matching. In other words, the platform will match employers with candidates using OpenAI’s AI system.

Simo explained that the tool will serve businesses of all sizes, not just large corporations. She noted that one track will be dedicated to local businesses and governments, allowing them to find AI talent to meet their needs. Simo claims the platform will provide access to opportunities at every level. The platform will feature “knowledgeable, experienced candidates at every level” while creating opportunities for workers across different industries.

A direct challenge to LinkedIn

The jobs platform positions OpenAI against LinkedIn, Microsoft’s professional networking site that dominates the online hiring market. LinkedIn has more than 1 billion members worldwide and has become a central place for recruiters, advertisers, and brands to reach professionals.

The rivalry is notable because Microsoft is OpenAI’s biggest financial backer. The tech giant has invested around $13 billion in OpenAI and integrated ChatGPT into products like Microsoft Office and Bing. Yet, last year, Microsoft listed OpenAI as a direct competitor in areas like AI search and advertising.

If OpenAI follows through with its plan, it will challenge a platform that has been deeply integrated into recruitment, professional development, and learning for years.

Expanding beyond ChatGPT

This jobs platform is part of a OpenAI’s plan to expand beyond ChatGPT. Reports suggest the company is also developing a browser to compete with Google Chrome and exploring social networking tools.

OpenAI is also expanding its training and education arm. Through OpenAI Academy, it plans to introduce certifications for different levels of “AI fluency.” This offering overlaps with LinkedIn Learning, which provides video courses and certifications in business, technology, and creative skills.
