Google is rolling out Nano Banana, its latest AI image generation and editing model, to Search. The feature is now available through Google Lens and AI Mode, allowing users to create and edit photos directly within Search on Android and iOS.

Nano Banana was first introduced in August as part of Gemini 2.5 Flash. At the time, it was only available in the Gemini app and to developers through the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, and Vertex AI. CEO Sundar Pichai announced the broader rollout on X, saying that Nano Banana is now part of Google’s expanding set of AI tools under the Gemini umbrella.

How Nano Banana works in Google Search

According to Google, users can access Nano Banana in Search by opening Lens in the Google app. The feature can be found under a new “Create” mode, marked with a yellow banana icon. From there, users can take a photo or choose one from their gallery and describe the edits they want.

Google says users can try suggested prompts like “make a photo booth pic of me” or provide their own custom instructions. After generating a result, they can continue editing or share the final image.

According to Google, Nano Banana also supports image creation from scratch through AI Mode. By selecting the “Create image” tool, users can type a text prompt, and the model will generate an entirely new image. The rollout has started in English in the U.S. and India, with more regions expected later.

Expanding Nano Banana into Search marks another step in how Google is testing generative AI in its core products.

Integration with other Google products

Google is also integrating Nano Banana into its other products. In NotebookLM, the model now supports Video Overviews with six new artistic styles, such as watercolor and anime. It also generates contextual illustrations based on source materials and introduces a new “Brief” format for summarizing quick insights. The company also plans to expand the feature to Google Photos.
