Meta has launched a standalone Meta AI app. The company says this first version of the Meta AI app is designed to be more personal, conversational, and integrated across Meta products like Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp.

The Meta AI app is powered by Llama 4, Meta’s latest large language model. Meta claims this new app gives users a direct way to interact with Meta AI. This could be Meta’s version of the ChatGPT app. The AI assistant adapts based on users’ preferences, draws from their activity across Meta platforms, and learns their context over time.

The Meta AI app comes with new features and updates, including voice controls and personalization based on users’ activity across Meta platforms. It also introduces a Discover feed to enable users to browse and remix prompts shared by others.

Personalization through Meta's ecosystem

According to Meta, the assistant is designed to “get to know you.” That includes remembering preferences users have shared directly and pulling in behavioral data from across Meta’s ecosystem. Responses are only personalized based on information users choose to share or what they’ve interacted with.

For instance, the AI assistant can provide more tailored responses if a user has their Facebook and Instagram accounts linked through Meta’s Accounts Center. Meta says personalized responses are available today in the U.S. and Canada.

Meta is adding a Discover feed to its AI app

The Meta AI app will get a Discover feed, where users can explore how others are using the AI, including popular prompts and creative applications.

Meta wants the AI app to look like a social media feed where users can view, interact with, comment on, like, and remix prompts shared by others. OpenAI seems to be working on a social networking feature too.

Meta AI app comes with a voice control feature

Meta’s AI app also introduces a voice functionality, which includes a full-duplex speech demo. The feature will allow users to have AI conversations where speech isn’t read from written responses but generated directly.

Meta says the tool doesn't connect to the internet or offer live updates. This means that answers are drawn from the assistant's built-in knowledge base. This demo is only available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

AI on the web also gets an upgrade

Meta’s web version of its AI assistant is also getting upgraded. It now includes voice capabilities and the same Discover feed found in the app. The company says this new interface is optimized for desktops and larger screens.

The web version now offers more presets and style controls—like mood, lighting, and color settings for image generation.

This new Meta AI app is part of the ongoing AI race between big tech players—where OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and xAI’s Grok are all competing for user attention and developer adoption.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is already widely adopted, and Google is pushing Gemini across Search and other products. By adding its assistant across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and now in a standalone app, Meta is aiming to remain in the AI conversation.
