Google’s AI Mode is now open to all Labs users in the U.S. In early March, Google began testing AI Mode with Google One Premium users. The company expanded the AI search chatbot to limited Google Labs users in late March.
Google says AI Mode is a new Search feature that provides advanced responses to complex questions. The company claims the tool delivers deeper answers to searches than AI Overviews. With the expansion, Google is bringing new tools to AI Mode. Previously, the company introduced image search in AI Mode, which enables users to ask questions using photos taken or uploaded directly in the feature.
Visual products and place cards are coming to AI Mode
Over the next week, Google will introduce visual products and place cards in AI Mode. These cards will appear when users ask questions about a location or a shoppable item. According to Google, users will be able to tap on a card to explore more details.
For product searches, that means access to shoppable links, real-time prices, current promotions, shipping info, and even local store inventory. For instance, when a user enters a product search query, AI Mode will not only provide a summary of the product but will also offer clickable cards with product images, current prices, shipping options, and local availability.
Desktop now re-engages with previous searches using the new side panel
Google is adding functionality that allows users to re-engage with their previous searches. The feature is available on desktop and can be accessed on the left-side memory panel. This panel shows previous activities grouped by topic. Users can pick up where they left off, view AI-generated results from earlier queries, and ask follow-up questions directly.
