Elon Musk has launched Grok Imagine, a new feature that lets users create videos and images from text prompts. Grok Imagine functions as a short-form video generation tool powered by the same technology behind the Grok chatbot. It lets users enter a text prompt and generate six-minute videos directly within the X app.

The feature also allows users to convert still images into moving visuals with sound. Grok Imagine lets users tweak generated content without needing third-party tools or leaving the platform.

Access and availability

Grok Imagine is accessible within the X app and on the standalone Grok app. The feature is currently in early rollout and available to SuperGrok premium subscribers, who pay $30 monthly.

Users can join the waitlist by updating their X app and opting into the subscription tier. The company says broader access will begin rolling out gradually, with full public availability expected in October 2025.

The Vine connection

Musk has made clear that Grok Imagine is part of a larger plan to bring back Vine, the short-form video app Twitter shut down in 2017. “Grok Imagine is AI Vine,” Musk wrote in a post on X. Last week, Musk stated that he would revive Vine in an AI form. However, he didn't give a release date.

He said X has found the old Vine video archive, which was believed to be lost. “Btw, we recently found the Vine video archive (thought it had been deleted) and are working on restoring user access, so you can post them if you want.” The company could be working to restore user access so people can repost their old Vine content if they choose.

Now, Musk is rolling out a short-form video creation tool with a twist that relies on generative AI instead of filmed content. The X owner is positioning this feature as a response to the growing demand for short-form video content.
