Reddit has rolled out a new feature that allows users to auto-translate posts and comments into their preferred languages. This comes after the earlier launch of French translations this year.
According to Reddit, the feature is designed to help users interact in different languages and enhance multilingual conversations on the platform. The platform claimed that the new expansion will make it easier for users to find communities that speak their language. “People can also participate in conversations and contribute to communities in their own language.”
Reddit’s translation feature is accessible on mobile and desktop platforms, including its apps. The tool will be available in more than 35 regions across Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Right now, Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish support is already active, with plans to roll out the feature in Germany, Italy, and the Philippines soon.
How users can use the translation feature
To use this feature, Redditors can translate posts and comments from a community's original language into their preferred language set on Reddit. Users in supported languages will see a dedicated translation icon. This will enable them to view content in their selected language.
Posts that are translated will be clearly labeled, and users can opt to read them in their original language if they choose to. Also, in the coming weeks, a banner will highlight translated posts, and users can choose to view the original language through the post-overflow menus.
The feature will also allow users to discover Reddit posts and discussions in different languages through search engine results.
