Reddit is now the second most visited website in the United States, according to July 2025 traffic data from Semrush. The site recorded 2.33 billion visits during the month, overtaking Facebook’s 2.25 billion.
While Reddit climbed into the number two position, Google remains far ahead at the top with 21.63 billion monthly visits. In Canada, Reddit ranked as the third most-visited site. Amazon and Yahoo completed the top five list.
The data shows how quickly Reddit has expanded its reach in recent years. With over 415 million global weekly active users and daily active users averaging 110.4 million, up 21%, the platform has evolved into a hub where people search, share, and discuss information across countless topics.
Collectively, these numbers show that Reddit is no longer just scaling traffic. The company is turning those users into revenue. In its Q2 earnings, the company reported steady revenue gains driven by advertising demand and the rollout of new ad tools. Its total revenue reached $500 million, up 78% year-over-year.
Reddit’s role in search and discovery
Users are increasingly relying on community-driven content as an alternative to traditional search or social media feeds. Reddit’s CEO, Steve Huffman, noted that “every week, hundreds of millions of people come to Reddit looking for advice.”
With the company growing, Reddit has been working to become more than a discussion forum. Reddit uses Google’s Gemini model in its internal search and in features like “Reddit Answers.” The company has been integrating Gemini into its platform to improve search and discovery.
This means that when users search for content within Reddit, the results are powered by large-scale AI models trained on both public data and Reddit’s community discussions. This approach aims to make Reddit posts, threads, and comments more accessible when people are looking for specific answers.
Sources report that Reddit is negotiating a new content-sharing deal with Google that goes beyond flat licensing. The company is pushing for “dynamic pricing” and deeper partnerships that would more directly link Google traffic to Reddit communities. Earlier in 2024, Reddit struck an agreement with Google that allowed the tech giant to access Reddit’s data for training AI models. The new discussions appear to be centered on reshaping that arrangement.
Reddit’s leadership has also been vocal about turning the platform into a search destination. The company said it is concentrating resources on making Reddit a go-to search engine for people seeking answers and community insight.
The platform has not yet reached the scale of Meta or Google in ad revenue, but its traffic growth and unique positioning around community-led conversations are becoming points of attraction. One of the company’s newer initiatives is “Community Intelligence,” which uses aggregated discussions and signals from Reddit to give advertisers more context about consumer sentiment.
For example, brands can see trending conversations in specific communities and track how users are talking about their products or competitors.
