Instagram is set to prioritize 'views' across all content formats. In a video post, the Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri, announced that “Views will now be consistent across all types of content photos, carousels, stories, and Reels.”

Mosseri’s announcement means that Instagram will now use the same metric to measure engagement for all types of content on the platform. For instance, if users post a carousel of images, the number of 'views' will now be consistently tracked just like for reels or stories.

Also, Instagram will count each time a user views the same content more than once, rather than just counting unique views. So, If a user posts a photo on Instagram and a follower views it three times, it will count each of those views separately. Knowing how "views" are counted across various social media platforms can help users understand this change.

How will this update benefit Instagram creators?

This update aims to provide creators with a unified metric to measure their content impact. Previously, different content formats had different metrics to measure engagement. Now, creators will have a single, consistent metric to track performance.

In the video, Mosseri also emphasized how the 'sends-per-reach' metric effectively measures the impact of content.
