Meta has introduced a new feature allowing users to cross-post between Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. This feature, which began testing in February for Facebook and in May for Instagram is now accessible to all Threads users globally.
Previously, Meta leveraged a cross-posting feature between Instagram and Facebook. With the introduction of this new feature for Threads, Meta aims to enable creators and businesses to reach audiences across multiple platforms with one post.
How Meta’s cross-posting works
Meta's cross-posting feature allows users to share the same post across Instagram, Facebook, and Threads.
This rollout follows Threads’ recent growth which exceeded 200 million active users. Announcing the platform’s growth, Adam Mosseri, Threads Chief, noted that the company aims to generate creative ideas that foster connections among users.
Now, users can post updates on Instagram and Facebook, and instantly share them on their Threads accounts without uploading them separately on the platform.
How to cross-post on Instagram and Facebook to Threads
To cross-post from Instagram to Threads users toggle the Threads sharing button when posting an image on Instagram. Captions and hashtags will be adjusted for Threads, though hashtags will appear as plain text.
Users have the option to automatically share their Instagram content with Threads. However, Instagram Reels cannot be cross-posted.
On Facebook, users can activate this option while creating a Threads post, allowing them to share text and link posts directly to Facebook. However, this feature does not support video posts but is available on both Android and iOS devices.
